"A Damascene Moon"

This is fun! Presenting Superfluous Post #2.

Here's a poem I found at random when I googled 'damascus moon', by a very well-known and popular Arab writer whom we heard about in Arabic and/or Egyptian Colloquial Arabic last year. If I'd taken Introduction to Arabic Literature last year I think I might have been able to study him. I have the feeling we studied him a little in Introduction to Middle Eastern Cultures in my first year, but it was as part of the section on all types of literature at the very end of the year, and would have been little more than a brief overview, if that.
